About this publication

Welcome! I’m John C. O’Leary III, a jazz pianist, neuroscientist, composer, educator, and lifelong student of music. This publication is my corner of the world where I share ideas that help musicians grow. Here I post jazz lessons, practice concepts, and creative insights from my life on the piano. My goal is to open doors into the music, spark curiosity, and give you something concrete you can use in your practice and musical life.

I write about the things I care about: sound, groove, harmony, improvisation, creativity, and the craft of becoming a better musician. Sometimes I take you behind the scenes of my own process. Sometimes I share stories from the road or my experiences as a working jazz musician. Sometimes it is just a small idea that helped me in the practice room and might help you too.

Everything here is free because I want anyone who loves music to be able to learn, explore, and grow without barriers. If you want to support the work, you can become a paid subscriber, but there are no paywalls and no hidden content. Paid supporters simply help me keep this space free for everyone.

Thank you for being here, for reading, and for caring about music. I hope what I share helps you deepen your relationship with the piano, find new ways to practice, and connect more closely with your own creative voice.

Let’s make some music,

John
