This week we look at a magnificent contrafact on Juan Tizol’s “Perdido” as played by Clark Terry, Paul Gonsalves, & Jimmy Hamilton on Duke Ellington's A Cosmic Scene: Duke Ellington's Spacemen. A beautiful album from 1958 that used a nonet instead of a typical big band, which can be 16 or more players.

This is a bebop head played instead of the regular melody, which is played as background figures during solos. By learning this transcription you will get so much!! I highly encourage you to practice it both ha ds and even ni different keys!

I split this one into 2 episodes as it was too long. Here I only post the first 16 minutes.

Enjoy!!!!
